Intro Blog

 Hello, I'm Nicholas Arnold and I'm a senior in my second year of Media Studies. Since we are now fully back to school this year, this class will be vastly different in more ways than just its curriculum. There are now much less restrictions when it comes to the filmmaking process. One example is location. I can now film not only at school, but in more public areas without having to wear a mask. This will make meeting up with group members much easier. I also plan to work with a higher amount of group members this year, as we will be able to meet up much easier. There will hopefully be much less of a workload for our group with more members. Our planning period might be more difficult, however. This would be because it will be harder to agree on the same vision for a story. I hope to expand on our ideas and skillset with the projects this year, with these longer films that we are tasked to make. I'm excited to work on a longer film, particularly because of how much more story we can pack in. In the previous project, there was around 5 minutes of footage that eventually got cut down to 2 minutes. There was a lot of content that I would've rather kept in that had to be inevitably scrapped for the final release. While I don't expect this to change completely, I think it will be beneficial to have a longer runtime. It might require more editing, but that will be manageable. I quite enjoy editing, and I've had fun editing every previous project. I've quite mastered OpenShot, which is a pretty simple platform to be fair. Since I've finished AS level, I've made quite a few videos using OpenShot and gotten a lot of practice in outside of schoolwork. Overall, I am ready for a fun and eventful year.

Filming: First Scene

 We decided that the first scene could be filmed at a separate time than the rest of the scenes because of its location. Not only that, this was filmed on a separate date. The script was changed to compensate this. The camping trip was scheduled for a later date rather than later that day in the story to maintain continuity. All group members and cast members were not together for this shoot, as we didn't need to be. There are no group parts in this scene besides ones that will be edited in. We got in a voice call together for communication purposes as the first shot was filmed. There needed to be two phones utilized for this shot, as the shot consisted of a phone on a table. Only phone cameras will be recording every scene, and this was no different, which is where the second phone comes in. The camera wouldn't move, as it captures a top-down shot of the table with a phone in its center. The phone would then ring and be picked up by an off-screen arm after a considerable amoun

Intro & Group Blog: Final Task

 I am Nicholas Arnold, an 11th grader at Fort Lauderdale High. After the success of the previous project I worked on, I am excited to work on a new project with my improved editing skills. I feel that I am now fairly competent at editing footage. It would be an ideal scenario if I could use that skill in a group. This why I am choosing to participate in a group with Grant Cipollone. I have chosen to be in the same group for 3 separate reasons. The first is that Grant has good camerawork and can create great footage to use off of our ideas. This is something that I don't feel as confident with, so a project would turn out better with him filming scenes. Secondly, I am more knowledgeable of the editing software and can create a good final project with the footage given. This commercial is targeted towards anyone with underlying medical conditions that could lead to constant uncontrollable headaches, specifically those who seek a solution to this condition. The commercial primarily advertises a product that is meant to fix these issues. The main goal of the commercial is to get the targeted audience to buy the product advertised by making a convincing plea that the product is worth buying. Migraines are an issue in many people's lives and this advertisement is an attempt at reaching this audience, and their wallets.
