Genre Choice


 

  1. Just from our pitch, one could guess what genres our film would fit under. There are obvious elements of horror and thriller. There are also broader elements of drama that one could connect to our pitch. while we plan to include each of the genres into our film, we want to focus mostly on just one. That one genre is horror. Initially, we were thinking of making it drama instead but, we wanted to focus more on horror. We felt this because the horror genre is much less broad than the drama genre. We also feel that too many movies are put under the drama genre and we would like to diverge from all of them. Our short film introduction we did last year was a drama film. But, it had elements of horror as well. The biggest difference in the writing of horror movies versus drama movies is the character development. Horror Movies tend to have less character development.
  2. Drama movies tend to have more character development. That will be the main difference between our film of last year and this year as well. Last year, we put a lot of time into developing the setting and the interpersonal conflicts. But, this year, we hope to save more screen time for action sequences and thrilling scenes. We will accomplish this by cutting down on the dialogue and setting shots. I look forward to making the film horror especially because I like the horror genre. While I also like the drama genre, I think it is far to broad to be the main genre of a film. I also like specific camera techniques used in horror movies and I would like to implement them in our film. For example, frequent close up shots.

Filming: Rehearsal Pt.1

The date of filming is soon approaching. In preparation for the day we are going to film, our group of actors and filmers all got in a call and went over the scenes. In this call we discussed each scene and how it will be carried out when we go to film. We explained to our actors what they had to do during their screentime. SCENE 1- Picking up the phone and the phone call We will have the camera start facing down on the table, and it will stay there a little after for the title card to show in post. Then there will be a cut to the split screen phone call. The audio will be recorded externally while the two parts will be filmed with vertical-facing cell phones. This will allow for both shots to be put together for the split screen and audio doesn't have to be recorded on the phones while they are recording. Filming: Extra Preparation

  One of the biggest dilemmas we have faced in this project has been finding a suitable location. I already explained how the search was too hard, so we had to change the setting of the movie. By far, getting over the hurdle of finding a location has been the hardest part. It has also taken up the most of our time. Comparatively, writing the script and drawing the storyboard were much easier. We will probably be making more changes to our script as we go on. Whether the changes are in response to a part of the setting we did not account for or something else, it is likely the script will be changed. Likewise, we may have to alter the story from the storyboard to adapt to changes in the original plan.
