Filming Blog: Around and Outside the House

Filming began and ended on 11/1. It took place early morning after a rainy day previously, which is why I had to wait a day to film. I went to explain the scenes with my actors that I had finalized in the storyboard, and once they understood we moved to the first scene.

This took place in the master bedroom, to leave enough space for the camera to zoom out. Each shoot took around 10-20 seconds, as I would only need roughly 5 seconds for the final cut. Props included the thin blanket which was used instead of the full sheets, a pillow in which the main character would throw on their face in annoyance, and a pad to be placed on their forehead to help with the "headache". The pillow was the only one being directly manipulated by a character, though. This shoot was the longest, with the pillow being thrown on and off a few times, but I think the clip I will use is when the it is thrown on.
We then moved on to the next scene, which started off with the main character walking out of the hallway to greet the side character at the table. After filming in that location however, the light from the sliding glass door proved to be too bright and made it hard to see the foreground, so it was moved to the rocking chair by the couch.
This should make a seamless edit to the next scene, which is on the couch, and just involves sitting and watching TV. A remote was used as a prop, and I believe this scene was nailed and we did not need to shoot again.
The next scene was on the back porch, where they were sitting next to each other but not on the same seat, as that would be too similar to the next scene. Nothing really notable with this one, and we move on to the final scene, which I know will be one take because there is really nothing to mess up.
I had the camera placed far behind the swing outside and shot a few seconds of them rocking together and called it a day.

Overall the shoot took around 20 minutes. All of the locations were close enough to each other and everyone knew what to do in each scene. There weren't really many opportunities to mess up a scene, which is why there weren't many retakes. The commercial just involves the characters acting normal while the voiceover does the talking, and the filler visuals serve their purpose and work well. I ended with 1:10 seconds of footage which I plan to cut down to 25 seconds in editing.
